چکیده

Remote sensing technology is effective to grasp the damage distributions from various natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. After the 2007 Niigata-ken Chuetsu-oki, Japan earthquake, aerial images were taken in the stricken area by several air survey companies in Japan. Airborne remote sensing is more suitable to collect detailed damage distribution because it provides higher resolution images than satellite remote sensing does. The post-event image taken by a digital aerial camera (DMC) is employed in this study to detect building damages. Although the accuracy of visual damage inspection is good enough, it takes time to perform for the whole areas that are subjected to severe ground motion. Therefore, in this study, the automated technique is proposed to extract building damages. The proposed technique is expected to contribute for the damage assessment at an early stage after the occurrence of an earthquake.

On the ionospheric perturbation associated with the 2007 Niigata Chuetsu-oki earthquake, as seen from subionospheric VLF/LF network observations

In order to investigate any precursory effect of ionospheric perturbations associated with the large 2007 Niigata Chuetsu-oki earthquake (16 July 2007) (magnitude, 6.8), we have made full use of our VLF/LF network observation in Japan by examing the four propagation paths; JJI transmitter (Kyusyu, Ebino)-MSR (Moshiri, Hokkaido), JJY transmitter (Fukushima)-MSR, JJY-KOC (Kochi) and JJICBA (Tatey...

Seismological asperities from the point of view of dynamic rupture modeling: the 2007 Mw6.6 Chuetsu-Oki, Japan, earthquake

We study the ground motion simulations based on three finite-source models for the 2007 Mw6.6 Niigata Chuetsu-oki, Japan, earthquake in order to discuss the performance of the input ground motion estimations for the near-field seismic hazard analysis. The three models include a kinematic source inverted from the regional accelerations, a dynamic source on a planar fault with three asperities in...

Disaster Damage Detection and Its Recovery Support System of Road and Railroad Using Satellite Images

This paper describes a decision support system based on GIS and satellite remote sensing analysis. Damage triggered by the 2004 Niigata-ken Chuetsu Earthquake was detected using NDVI from SPOT images and texture analysis. Then the emergency transportation route was selected by a cost-based GIS analysis. As the result of the analysis, large-scale damage could be detected with high accuracy. From...

Factor structure of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) in subjects who had suffered from the 2004 Niigata-Chuetsu Earthquake in Japan: a community-based study

BACKGROUND Factor structure of the 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) was studied by a survey of subjects who had experienced the 2004 Niigata-Chuetsu earthquake (6.8 on the Richter scale) in Japan. METHODS Psychological distress was measured at two years after the earthquake by using GHQ-12 in 2,107 subjects (99.0% response rate) who suffered the earthquake. GHQ-12 was scored by b...

Psychological Recovery 5 Years After the 2004 Niigata-Chuetsu Earthquake in Yamakoshi, Japan

BACKGROUND The 2004 Niigata-Chuetsu earthquake of Japan caused considerable damage. We assessed long-term changes in psychological distress among earthquake victims during the period 5 years after the earthquake. METHODS The participants were people aged 18 years or older living in Yamakoshi, a community in Niigata Prefecture near the epicenter. A self-administered questionnaire survey was co...
